Short, cute. Sweet as honey, and the right amount of stickiness between them.
Honestly this was perfect as a short-form series between them. The art style was light and soft, which adds a nice visual complement to the plot as Nina strives to find, then save, and then re-discover her senpai crush.
The idea of two people idealizing one another, not really seeing one another, and yet rectifying that before it was too late, is the sort of story I wish I had more experience with in my own life.
Too many times to count, I've missed out on that last most crucial bit. So getting a story that ends happily with Nina and Mao-senpai crossing that finish line is a lovely little bit of vicarious escapism.
Sometimes you need the story to end happy with everything working out and the heroes winning the day, after all. And so Nina working things out with Mao-senpai, and the two of them reconnecting and finding a new beginning between them is heartening. I hope that Mao learns to love and be true to herself; and I imagine that having someone so bright and resolute as Nina in her corner will make that an inevitability. Everyone should have someone who will faithfully and honestly sing your praises while simultaneously keeping you honest and ensuring you won't get a big head about it.
And I'm glad that Mao has that, and that Nina has the one she's been after for years, and that they have late-night diners and alcohol and guitar and their love.

The description is really apt:
The author told their story, we read it, and we can be impressed by the characters' journeys to understand themselves and each other, and be disappointed by the lack of romance. However, the issue with short stories is that they can feel underdeveloped or excessive, and there's a Goldilocks zone that's hard to find. I feel the author nearly missed this mark; an extra chapter exclusively focused on the senpai and her struggles, rather than being packed into the climax across two chapters, could have added the dramatic tension needed to satisfy the audience overall.
All in all, this story conveys the emotions and struggles adolescents face as they try to find an identity and place in society after their teenage years and secondary schooling very well. The characters were well-developed in seven chapters, and the resolution was satisfying in terms of the author's meaning, rather than the audience's expectation of "Girls' Love".
Indeed, neither protagonist is in a position for a relationship, and though it's very much implied that this could be in the cards in the future, the audience doesn't get to see it.
