Are Japanese mangaka really so frequently pulled into p2w/gatcha games, or is there something more going going on? I'm thinking big manga publishers are being paid to mention pw2/gatcha as non-specific product placement.
I feel like I've seen this stuff in a few slice of life manga. It just seems weird to me that manga artists, who are often considered pretty disciplined, are so frequently victim to phone game ecosystems. Especially considering that the manga community generally overlaps with the gaming community. Why aren't these people playing better games? You might argue that they're just writing about characters playing gatcha, but it's pretty evident that these SoL stories are based heavily on the mangaka themeselves. Maybe it's not the case in this manga, but something in the industry is fishy.
It would actually surprise me more if the predatory gatcha industry wasn't doing predatory shit. Mangaka are often desperate to get serialized, and it's a small concession to include some gatcha references in your manga if it means getting paid.

EDIT: Right now, I can only remember the frequent gatcha references in Maya-san(Night Owl Witch). I read a lot of slice of life, so maybe I'm misremembering how often I see this gatcha stuff, because it all kind of blends together. If anyone else has noticed this, hmu.
