They should be best pals, who says that you can't have friends of the opposite sex? They're basically made to be drinking buddies.

Biggest rip, their self standards are gonna be their downfall.
yeah this was bullshit, if i find someone that's as slob and dysfunctional as i am, i'm latching onto that person like a tick, i'm not going to find another one and a normal person has no business with me

Honestly, I personally won't date me so I get it. When you're too similar with someone, you know you'll eventually hate them because they'll unknowingly remind you that you're kind of a failure of a human being.
not if you love yourself and/or are proud of yourself even as you are

The irony of this is that as you get older, you realize more that living with a person similar to yourself is the most comfortable. Hence the "Netflix and Chill" style dates where you lounge around at home and watch TV.

If they could both try each others' TV hobbies, or find a new one they could share (Co-Op racing game with online purchases) it might work out. The teens and 20's are the dishonest period where people act hypocritical and judge others for things they do themselves. The 30's and onwards are when life experience and wisdom sets in and people start to realize that it's better to have stuff in common, even if it's supposedly "bad" stuff.

And we also find out that everyone's like that at home anyway, so being otherwise is mostly an illusion.
