I really like these types of stories. It’s cathartic to watch a character learn to trust and love again after being tortured for years.

I have a question though. If the author wanted the protagonist to make business decisions or political moves or whatever, why is the protagonist a child? It really breaks my suspension of disbelief when the CHILD protagonist is making business decisions in which every bigwig in the business world compliments her and follows her every decision. It’s stupid.

If I were an old sage taking care of my 8 year old granddaughter and then she all of a sudden is making potions like a scientist and talking about business distribution strategies like an adult, I’d truly question her. It’d weird me out. This is a world where magic exists. How do I know she isn’t some cursed magical beast or whatever masquerading as a human?

There’s a difference between emotional intelligence and other forms of intelligence. There are plenty of 8 year olds that act much older than they really are and can have actual adult conversations with you, however those 8 year olds still act like children most of the time.
