Still trying to get a bead on Kuro; I think I would vastly prefer if he really were some inhuman individual who is utterly incapable of feeling empathy for Hotaro's situation.

Maybe he learns a bit about "human-ness" from her in time, but after over two centuries of dealing with the Recently Deceased, it sorta beggars belief that Hotaro would just so happen to be the very first human he's met who really isn't selfish - so her "fully changing/converting" him would be a bit odd.
But I am curious about that fight she, Shiori, and Ren were having at the end. I imagine the scribbled-out name will be the third regret, if the first is her grandmother, and then another is her unrequited feelings for Ren. If I'm reading it correctly though - it was Hotaro herself who was lashing out, seemingly over the person whose name she can't remember. So as seemingly docile/kind/demure as she appears, perhaps there's some hidden truth/reveal involved.

And off the back of Kuro's "all humans are selfish" comment, maybe that's also a flag of sorts that there'll be a twist reveal down the road where our protagonist is concerned.
