J<->M is explicitly set after Hinamatsuri. We have references of Mao being an active celebrity.

You're confusing things a bit. Baba was promoted to head of the Ashikawa family during the events of Hinamatsuri. Which is under the Oudou Alliance. But as far as I remember, Hinamatsuri never really gave any info on his personal standing within the Oudou Alliance as a whole.

Come J<-<M, Baba is apparently now the underboss of the Oudou Alliance as a whole, so good for him I guess. The man is putting in the work. (Or most realistically, letting Nitta and Hina do some shenanigans behind the scenes while taking a lot of credit for it).
Right, I'm probably confused about that. The convoluted hierarchy between a yakuza in their own family and in the parent family always amuses me. It's plot point in some Like a Dragon game, where a family founder/lieutenant of a child family is in lower standing than an ordinary officer of its parent family.

With this particle collider working as intended, mom really is the final boss now. Take care of her and megumi agrees to go back.

he's talking about these clowns

but him saying that baba is the underboss seem to mean that it's set before hinamatsuri, or at least before the promotion incident.
Put some respect on Nittas name. He's no clown.

I wonder if there's going to be complication because it seems too early too easy. Like in detective conan, how they now have antidote to the childifying drug now but it only works temporarily and you're not supposed to use it too often because you'll build immunity, etc.

I mean yeah she might not want to return but not like she has a choice in it as j and mary could overpower megumi in js body.

Was just surprised they didn't immediately switch after the experiment was a success
You're not wrong, but why would Marie want to help J? On the one hand, she likes Megumi, and on the other it's not her problem.

Plus, I think J wouldn't want to overpower Megumi with Marie, since that wouldn't be "hardboiled".

They've never actually tried to switch back so the problem isn't that they had no idea how to switch back. The problem is Megumi refuses to switch back.
No, I know that, but I'm pretty sure they had no idea how to switch back for sure. They knew that the mechanism was bumping their heads, but J already tried that with Megumi when she was asleep, and it didn't work. But in this chapter, they've worked out the speed, angle, and force needed to trigger it which they didn't know before.

So the main concern isn't "Why don't J and Megumi switch back" which I never said, it's more like if they know how to switch minds, then they can get really crazy with it, and any character is now open to getting their mind switcher, ex. their handler for one. And maybe even some of the yakuza.

Tbh I think the author did the switch back cuz of editorial reasons. J swap m is the main pull of the series so he can't exactly just swap them back (unless the series is ending) otherwise it's just another hitman manga, but Mary swap j swap megumi was too confusing for most readers especially casual readers. It's very hard to track who is in who's body

So that's why megumi and j doesn't switch back even tho logically they should
