I find it to be the most realistic part of the story.
Women are like that. Its mainly due to a combination of low self-consciousness (this is sadly a trait that is shared between genders) and the fact that Intrasexual competition is brutal, especially for women. Doesn't help that culturally this behaviour is not called out in the west, but rather encouraged.
