Can't stand that pointless benevelence in a world that doesn't suit it at all. Especially considering just a couple pages ago he was perfectly fine with slaughtering someone (albeit not "human", he was close enough if you ask me)

yeah, it's fucking stupid. They both let that guy live, who likely beat, tortured and murdered hundreds, if not thousands, of people. And let's not even talk about his utter lack of remorse and the two-sentence "lecture" they gave him. An all-to-common decision by lazy and poor authors. (A hint of this was already given to us when the author refused to have the MC make an interesting character choice by selling or leaving the slave girl. Maybe he'll leave her later, but the opportunity for impact has already been largely squandered.)
