Nah, he did at one point gave up or rather delay till his disciples all die. And he return to the forest to train with suibokus.

But he got some sense beaten by suiboku. And decided to continue training instead of letting his disciples catch up.

Also, suddenly disciples. After the manga wrote them out.

He does tend to live his life with browig/bloise. So till she passes he stays in the mortal world. Or at least that is the current plan.

I think the manga generally did a better job in conveying the story. Most of the part, the LN felt more like thought experiments and random musings. So I won't mind if they end it here.

I like how this chapter feels surprisingly wholesome too.

Yep, that’s my plan as well. I can’t think of anything off the top of my head I’d like to see develop further in this manga, and I’d rather walk away at a good point of closure. There are other story threads of course, but this is a satisfying ending. It wraps up all the current drama and relational issues for the main cast, and sets them on their way. It’s been many years since this manga started, but here’s where I’ll part ways.
