My take is that the whole family are not humans but some kind human-looking spirits, and to them humans are the real evil beings. But then why the guy married his wife who is not one of them?
Or, they're just a bunch of delusional crazies who can't tell the color of their own blood.

He married because for some reason he thought she was like him.
