I can’t tell who in this comments section is just ignorant/not american, and who’s just… well. I can kinda guess. Anyway.
I’m not going to jump up and say that this was a straight up malicious depiction, but it was definitely one born of a certain set of beliefs, and almost certainly that’s going to bother people who have been harmed by those beliefs.
In short - the author picked a low-hanging fruit, and it turns out it was heavier because of all the rot inside.
it’s not going to be about humans turning into gorillas. It’s going to be about humans turning into the animals they are “compatible” with. So it’s not everyone. It’s her. Specifically. Because she’s “compatible” with them. And this is coming from japan. A somewhat xenophobic nation with a history of, shall we say, problematic depictions of black people.@emchege stop being such a triggered racist. There's nothing bad about having a black woman transforming into a gorilla when this entire manga is going to be about humans transforming into gorillas. Literally the few previous chapters were about gorillas.
