I'm going to go ahead and (try to) preempt those who will bemoan the MC choosing to submit willingly instead of fight.
Let's say he had the power to fight off the soldiers, then what? More soldiers would come expecting a fight this time. Let's say he still had the ability to fight them off. Then what? More soldiers would come to subjugate him for rebellion, and probably take out some of his friends as well. Let's say he still had the power to fight back. Then what?
Let's cut to the chase. He has brutally massacred all the soldiers in the kingdom, the neighboring kingdom(s), etc. Not only has he now become an enemy of all civilization within warning distance, he has also terrorized the people who he wanted to live peacefully with. He has completely ruined any chance of any kind of life with other people in civilized culture, and destroyed what he originally "fought" to "protect".
Sure, if he is that powerful he probably doesn't need other people, unless he gets sick or somehow wounded beyond his means to cure. Besides, the absolutely solitary life, perhaps periodically broken up by those seeking revenge for the ones he killed, or nations he destroyed, would ABSOLUTELY NOT be an interesting read...
So, no, violence is NOT always the answer. No, the mcs that submit or don't immediately react are NOT always cowardly or "beta" or other degrading BS. It is more difficult to (properly) navigate social and/or political situations than simply be more "combat" powerful than everybody else.
Post script: I failed to comment first, but I do agree with the above comment's underlying premise. 'F' the "lord" of the town/region; if he's upset that he is less popular than an adventurer then he should do something productive for the town, and not something detrimental (like removing someone who is beneficial...)
