he grew up in the slums with no education. flip a coin on weather a manga will go with the modern education system where commoners all can read and do math or none of them can save for merchants and most nobles/royals

I'm more interested to know how/why his previous life's knowledge helped him to understand this world's alphabet/writing system. If they basically have a Latin alphabet equivalent, then he just needed to know which letter belonged to which phonetic and that would be it.

I'm guessing its implied he at least learned how to read and write before his memory returned. doing math is simply something he remembers the moment he got his memory.
