...Why don't they climb down? In fact, any sort of material to help reduce rope burn would be all they would want, not even need. At worst, one person climbs up to show them how to get down properly, I mean going down would be far easier than going up! Instead, we have a whole crew going up.

@Kenidashi You didn't notice that the women in this chapter said they can't climb down? It would be hard for untrained women, not to mention that they have been weaken by staying in that rooftop without food for a long time.

It'd be one thing if they had proper equipment (harness, gloves, etc), but they don't, nor do they have any training. There's no way they'd make it down from a height like that. If all you have are bare hands and a rope, I'd think it'd be easier to climb than descend.
