tbf, it wasn't that crossdressing was male exclusive, but "dressing as a femboy" is male exclusive.

I suppose there are ways a girl could dress to convincingly appear as a femboy, in the same way a boy could convincingly dress as a tomboy, but both are terms that start with the person's gender assumed.

Japanese uses gendered terms for crossdressing. 女装 Josou and 男装 Dansou mean "Female Attire" and "Male Attire" respectively.
