The only way he would ever understand what he's doing is wrong is if he realized he was losing her (and I still haven't seen a single redeeming quality from this guy to justify keeping him around, so by all means, do kick him out).

Well, judging by the segment with his mother, he has a classic psychological trauma. This manga is not Oshi No Ko, so this will be investigated and resolved in any case. At least they are already pulling this arc for too long.
