I appreciate the transmigrator being aware of the romance flag he accidentally set up. Kinda weird how the heroine is all deredere for him compared to canon, but it's funny.

At least the hero still has his childhood friend. I prefer the osananajimi ships anyway.
...come to think of it, could the reason the positioning be off actually be because she was secretly placing the hero closer to herself as the temp captain?

He is the strongest character in the game at that point. Maybe the final boss is stronger, but at the moment, among established characters, he is the strongest.

The FMC is going to treat him differently than she would a courageous, but still rather wimpy, kid.

As you say, the hero has the childhood friend, who it appears misses out if there's a non-harem ending, so it's a win for her too.

MC just has to play it cool, exploit every game system he can, and stay alive to get the girl (and maybe the final boss as well).

Ten to one Childhood friend was suppose to "exit stage left" at a point in the story that leads to the Heroin and Hero getting together (The Losing Childhood Friend). It's like in Tsuyokute New Saga where due to going back in time and PREVENTING his tragic backstory! MC Kyle assured his childhood friend Liese didn't die, which gets in the way of his "romance" with his OG timeline wife Urza (In the Novel they do get back together, in the Manga/Anime though, she's friendzoned) so I think this is what is happening in the story due to MC actions! (At least she gets to be the VICTOROUS childhood friend now LOL)

Was there romance in the Tsuyokute New Saga manga? I thought Kyle was too attached to his mum that i thought his dad is the final boss because the absent dad actually existing is suspicious to me.

Alot in the Manga is implied, He's not really going for Liese because "first he has to PREVENT the end of the world". However the Manga basically outran the Novel where Urza is back to being the Main Love Interest so now the Manga is conflicting with the LN (and likely why it ended where it did I suppose LOL since the Manga was likely SO SURE Urza was getting friendzoned)
