I like it. But the story is so fast paced. Better pacing could've gone a long way. There's also some talk about strategies and backroom politics that the story seems to think is smart. But are braindead things. Like no duh attacking an enemy used to living in snow during winter would be bad, and that the army invading during spring would be better for the attacker.

To be honest, not everyone can think like this. Especially one that's getting rilled up and being used by others.

You can also explain that yeah, the idea was put into John's head so he (and others) can be "safely" get rid off during the war.
