Wasn't that line in place so the sword would remain and become more powerful? Instead... I'm not sure if it fizzled out or if sukuma dodged, looked weird

Man, in some ways Sukuna is one of the most boring antagonists imaginable. Getting real tired of him.

Man, in some ways Sukuna is one of the most boring antagonists imaginable. Getting real tired of him.

That may be due to a lack of background. Sukuna is mostly shown as the overwhelming, invincible and evil being that only exists to live a hedonistic life. So far, little is known about his origins or what guides him aside from whim.

That said, this kind of character is good to forcibly move the story, add some strings and clean some elements that are not necessary anymore (read as Gojo, Jogo, Megumin, ...), but it can backfire as it turns into a hollow Deus Ex Machina.

Correct. But before that flash back Higuruma thinks about his "role" in this fight.

"I'm intent on fulfilling my role and dying."

K: "Curses don't always weaken after death."
H: "Yeah, the general idea is they get stronger."
H: "My role."

Then it shows Nanime's death as Higuruma passes his gavel to Yuji, "You've got it from here." ie. Another character passing the torch to Itadori.

It's quite explicit by the end of 247 that Higuruma had decided that if he died it betters their chance of killing Sukuna.

AND then it doesn't actually work. So either he sacrificed himself for no reason, or he isn't actually dead, or the effect of his death hasn't been felt yet OR, it simply represents narrative growth of Itadori, who cracked at Nanime's death but now has the conviction to continue fighting after losing another friend.

It's real close between him and cain from the Amber eyes manga. Both haven't been fleshed out even Given ample time. and both seem to have all the plot armor capable of ruining the power scaling of the entire manga.
Don't get me started on the fact they're both kinda boring ngl.

The phrase used by Kusakabe was "It isn't impossible for a curse to grow stronger" or "It's not like a curse can't grow stronger",
Both emphasize that this is something that occasionally happens, but not always. The probability is there, but is not certain.
