I craved a serious, gritty title

I...can't tell if you're memeing or not. What about this series has been even remotely "serious"? Hell you can barely call it gritty given how goofy and surreal/over the top it got towards the end that it didn't only jump the shark it back flipped 1080'd over it while flipping it the double bird before an explosion goes off unnecessarily in the background.

Which part really drove home the seriousness? The part where Shun has Kyou right in front of him with zero defense and could have just blown his head off with the rifle he had before getting into a fucking FULL DIVE VR MACHINE?! Or the part where Kyou forces Shun (rifle still in hand) to participate in a shitty dating game to slowly choose which of the girls who were unlucky enough to be in this story to die gratuitous deaths for no reason, some of whom have basically zero relation to Shun beyond tangential? Or the part where Shun's former friend turned villain made a bunch of clones of his dead sister so he could have sex with them (and also kill them sometimes)? Or the zombie fetus that Kyou's right hand woman was keeping around that was his rape baby spawn despite the fact that she was a lesbian (and in fact her being a lesbian was not only shoved down your throat numerous times but also integral to her backstory)?

I'm genuinely curious. This manga has been taking the piss with its own narrative and setting since they returned from the Cult island. Everything after that arc has been the most goofy shit imaginable that it actively takes you out of the story due to its absurdity. Suspension of disbelief no longer existed from that point on unless you enjoyed the author literally dropping trou in front of you and shitting in your cereal while exclaiming "Wow, Cocoa puffs magically appeared in my bowl!".

Don't get me wrong, I commiserate with your disdain for all the isekai/wish fulfillment generic trash we've been getting but come on man. You can't lower your standards that much. It isn't that particular brand of tripe but it's still tripe.

I'd argue that the isekai slop he complained about is better written than this crap.

I’m glad this thing is ending because I don’t understand the point of the entire story, like what was the lesson, you go up against the crazy psychotic maniac and all your friends die.

This shit should have ended 100 chapters ago or before the Time skip

this crazy cult leader should have died before the Time skip
