Okay, so they're at an orphanage, sort of (weird one at that). Shouldn't Chiyou have dropped them off at most then? Having a guardian kind of defies the purpose of an orphanage, last time I checked (or well, one outside of the orphanage at least). :thonk:

On another note, the series feels a bit too fast-paced so far. Considering we're only collecting missing body parts and going by the size of them, there shouldn't be too many of them, so I feel like there should be more chapters dedicated to each of them. Just take this chapter, for example: We just learned the details of the mission in this chapter and are already progressing through/past the infiltration stage. If you can even call this an infiltration, they just walked in there and introduced themselves...
In general, I think going too fast is better than going too slow and drag things out, but it still feels like we're glossing over a lot of things. Which reduces the story to pretty linear "retrieve body part x" missions... :pepehmm:

Yeah, more time could be spent exploring the character relationships as opposed to rushing to these missions. I am a bit confused by the relationship between the two main characters; whether she is supposed to be a mother figure to Kou or her romance interest?

I assume there's more to come, though. Certainly, Kou's dad will factor in at some point. My prediction is that it'll turn out Chiyou might've had a hand in his disappeareance, and it'll pose a crisis in their relationship in the future.

I think it's a mix of those. Chiyou raised him, so she is/was like a mother to him. On the other hand (at least to me), she's not simply acting like a doting mother but wants more, and Kou is slowly getting aware of it. That being said, romance and family are probably concepts Shenguai aren't exactly familiar with. So maybe Chiyou neither consciously acts as his lover nor mother...

I honestly don't think the father will play a role again at all. They might've introduced Kou as an orphan as well. I suppose him getting abandoned was simply a tool to skip past the first few years of his life, when he would've hardly had any recollections of their first encounter...

I don't know, I feel if it wasn't meant to be a future storyline, it'd be something more vague like him just being a non-descript orphan with no knowledge of his past, or that his parents were killed by this or that and he was left alone; the fact that it's specified as his father abandoning him makes it seem like it is at least meant as a potential plot thread to follow, if the manga lasts long enough.
