You can tell this story in just a sentence. Akutsu meets Ooyama, seventy years pass, they die.

The point of stories is to be told, not to end. Everything that happens in a story is "unnecessary". If someone is tired of the story that is fine, but if the reason you are reading is just to see the end I think you are approaching it with the wrong mentality and may want to only read completed stories.
