I was under the impression from the main manga that the running gag is all the characters are operating on completely misguided informations.

Main one being Cid completely unaware all the story he made up about Diablo cult might actually be real and is being taken seriously by everyone else. Meanwhile Epsilon thinks her magic aptitude came from her maintaining slime breast 24/7, everyone else thinks it's her natural talent.
