After reading the first chapter, it's implied that the MC is from Japan. It most likely is Isekai, but we'll have to wait for more confirmation.

@Xaume yeah while I am a big fan of Isekai I really really hope that this is not directly one with the main character. I don't mind if its just that it so happens that someone was isekaied to this world back in the past or if he runs into one later as a side story of sorts. This is just such a nice fantasy story in the intelligent lazy guy helping the good imperial family member sub-genre that never really got that popular.

Also could just be an easy way to have a fantasy world have their own fantasy or alternate world literature. Who's to say in a fantasy world they wouldn't be writing novels on what if the world did not have magic or their own isekai stuff as well.

I laughed at the idea that the MC is into reading Isekai stories about someone who goes to a peaceful place called Japan and becomes a high school student. For someone from a danger-filled fantasy world, that really would be the ideal “slow life.”

Of course, the fact that the books mention “Japan” and “the States” implies that someone out there actually did get Isekai’d and then wrote about it. But it would be interesting if they just leave it at that for the time being.

Had I not watched that cgdct anime with a vampire and a doll fanatic girl who moves in with her (and I because of that have seen the kyuutei ladies OP OST), I would not have realized that this mangas title translates to "The shadow's cutie-magicians" or "cutie-magician's shadow" (never remember which direction the ownership translates)
