Kinda of ruins everything to make the shokoku actually super strong Japanese sorcerers threatening Japan when the series had previously been running on the war being actually caused Japanese aggression and the bad guys being pro war nostalgists. Early on you had Shiba and the dad saying the war didnt need to happen and was just to steal shokoku resources and now you have a big guy demanding Tokyo.

so, if you master the datenseki you'd get insect-themed sorcery powers? is that why Magatsumi got the "Shinuchi" title?

which means forging the datenseki into sword was akin to gambling. most likely you'd bust, the datenseki would explode, and you'd be dead. but if you hit jackpot, you might get a superpowered sword. if the power is insect-themed then congratz, that's the best possible prize!
