I have been thinking about the series direction and I have to say, I'm not 100% sure everything was the mangaka idea, reason I say that? Editors, doesn't most mangaka gets help from a editor to create the series? Like what direction to take and so on? Which made me think of two possibilities:
1 - This was indeed the plan all along but because it's the mangaka first work he kinda fumbled the pacing, some kept accusing the series of being axed but the reality is that if you reread the entire manga you can see the pacing starts to go downhill pretty early ish, at least in my opinion, another fumble is how Cattleya is so fucking overpowered too which I can't help but feel the mangaka put themselves in a corner with her
So this makes me wonder, did it go in this direction because the editor gave the mangaka too much freedom? Right editor can make or break some series, it's not really a secret that many great series exist in part because of the editor helping the mangaka so I can't help but wonder if this direction isn't in part due to a novice mangaka not having the right mangaka for them
2 - Which takes me to the second option that now I can't help but think about, now, I still think this is still more or less the story the mangaka wanted to take but looking at begining of the series I can't help but wonder if the original idea wasn't a more chill series focused on Kagura and Raito adventures, with them looking for Youma cure being more of a long term plot to excuse them traveling and having fun, I say that because I'm probably not the only one who felt that them being involved with Cattleya and her organization might have felt a little bit sudden
What I'm trying to say is that even if this is still more or less the original plan all along I can't help but wonder if the series became too serious and action focused because the editor suggested that, if you think about it that could explain the poor pacing and Cattleya feeling so overpowered, after all it all makes sense if fighting her was never planned to happen so soon, that also would explain why some things happened so fast like so many characters dying and the third host dying offscreen
All I can say for sure is that I do think for the most part this is the story the mangaka wanted to tell, only real question is who fumbled, the mangaka being a novice or the editor, both 1 and 2 are equally possible but nowadays I can't help but feel more and more that the direction changed at some point from "Kagura and Raito Adventures" to what we're getting now
