The problem with gimmicks like this is that they only make sense if the "modern day" setting doesn't have puzzle games or dungeon crawlers. "Gather everyone on the suspicious tile, oops we died" is a mistake that not even a first-time D&D party would make.

A D&D party is played by people whose lives are not on the line and have time to think.
Plus these guys seem to be muscle heads, use to brute force approaches.

Though their reaction to the first room and the mural in it make me think puzzles are not common.

Ok, dropped.
