@StaticTransit
It's basic establishment of her motivation as a character which is important considering she's the driving force behind this entire arc ya dingus.
As much as I like this backstory subjectively, I feel that it should have been better developed and spread out a bit more than right before she meant to sacrifice herself. It makes sense narratively as she's explaining her motivations, but it does come across as a little cheap even if I like the moment and it does hit right in the feels
Based on how this series seems to work, I assume that her friend will pass on, and Shizuku will inherit the curse. But rather than become a wandering anomaly like her friend, she's just gonna join up with our crew of cursed weirdos.
Fuck, dude. That's some sad shit. When she said "You were the one who opened the door for me" I assumed she was the Girl in Red before and Tomoko opened it for her which made her fine somehow, but it looks like it's about to be the case now.
@Guyincognitus She can be the driving force behind this arc all she wants but this arc kinda makes me sleep so eh.
The backstory felt out of nowhere and poorly thought out. I already don't really care about her to begin with so this just kind of feels like "you want character depth? Ugh fine have a flashback I guess lol." But even if I cared about her as a character, cramming all that into not even an entire chapter also diminishes the impact for me. Like I get why it relates to what's happening and all, and I think it would be a backstory I'd like if it was about a character the author gave me good reason to care about. Like as it is right now, I don't feel invested in her character at all so I can't say I really care that much if she lives or not.
In any case, she most likely isn't gonna die anyway. I wager there's like a 40% chance the brother is gonna show up next chapter and a 30% chance they somehow deal with it on their own without him.
