I think, the samurai is the ancestor of Kafka. There's definitely an ancestor of Hoshina, and we've also supposedly been shown an ancestor of Narumi. And now Kafka. What is the likelihood that we will be shown Mina's ancestor in the next chapters?

Kafka talks too pathetically about his similarity to a kaiju-mosquito. There were people you couldn’t save. And a promise you couldn’t keep. The kaiju appeared simply because the circumstances lined up that way. But what about Kafka? Who did he fail to save? Out of all the more or less well-known characters, only Isao Shinomiya has died. As for the rest, everything is still fine. Kafka didn’t keep his promise just because he did almost nothing to keep it.

He failed to save his friends and parents when his and Mina’s town was destroyed before the events of the manga.

the people he failed to save are the people of his hometown (it's why he and mina decided to sign up for the JAKDF), and the promise he failed to keep is his promise to mina that they'd both join the JAKDF.

I know about the kaiju's attack on Kafka's city. But the death of his parents/friends is unconfirmed information. It is only mentioned that Mina's cat died, which made her cry.

I know about the attack and their promise. But there is no reliable information about whom Kafka lost at that time. There are only mentions that Mina's cat died that day. She cried because of the death of her pet, which upset Kafka.

In my opinion, Kafka did not make enough effort to fulfill his promise. This is indicated by many details throughout the story. I would say that he did not face insurmountable circumstances, except for his own beliefs. Moreover, Kafka stayed in JAKDF only because Hoshina is very kind.

BIG decision. Let's see if it stays, and if it do, I hope to see something about Kafka handling his daily life as a kaiju even if is done comically.

Also, I hope if it is the case, it doesn't end like Gregor Samsa.
