You kinda forgot that it face tank most land attacks with ease from previous landfall
So between the torpedo which is the immediately danger that just heavily damage it

Lower danger from land from previous landfall memories

Btw, this chapters criticism is aimed at page 26, marked 124, and the bubble with "what a tremendous shockwave take a hit from that and you're done for". This is where I would use an exclamation mark, or at least a punctuation, after the word shockwave, seperating the two lines. "Take a hit from that and you're done for" is very clearly its own line.

They only needed to delay the darn thing, rocket are accurate enough that there's ballistic computer made for them since couple decades ago for accurate strikes, the F35 going close is understandable for a fast strikes, also explosive is explosive, and a guided munition doesn't get thrown off that easily when it's literally guided by ground laser, heck your argument basically meant you're willing to sacrifice the F35 instead of just using guided munition

But no excuse for the helicopter, what were they even doing

they are taking the most realistic approach they can to an unprecedented enemy. pretty sure they never covered "giant monster attacks" in most military tactic handbooks. Hiruko has already proven it's willing to sacrifice limbs when desperate, and when facing a desperate enemy, you got to use every trick in the book, even if it seems a bit foolish or stupid by our standards

I believe that the intelligence is understanding what is and isn't dangerous in a fast-changing environment. The decision to go on the island is the correct choice for it understood that there's something lethal in the water it cannot dodge. Last time Hiruko went on the surface, it sustained injuries but has survived. It didn't know about the modified missile nor the flying metal insects with improved behavior to dodge the sonic attack.

So no, it didn't die stupidly, it died while making decisions with common sense in spite of the limited information.
