Your wrong here, he kept all the varieties of food and only shared one plain type of food, one that will keep people alive, but not satisfied.
It also has limits built into it, it can't be continuously farmed. He gave up only a emergency food. All keeping a monopoly an so many others.

The warning from the beast king was a pretty dumb attempt by the author to basically excuse the beast king from being there to protect his own country when shit hits the fan (since it's more dramatic for the village to fight on its own, rather than being protected by someone so powerful). But, factually, it doesn't matter if it's "close to the border" or not, it's still his land that he must protect. The fact that he's not gonna show up (since we were just straight up told so) is still there. A king not protecting his country because the author wants excess drama? Kinda super lame😅.
