I think that's Lidy's way of being considerate to Eizo. She's the quiet type to begin with, and she seems aware that Eizo has his own reasons (which a novel reader confirmed exists) for not accepting the advances of his wives despite being aware of them, but at the same time Lidy is kinda torn because she still hopes Eizo would reciprocate.
