I think the whole point of this backstory is not for redemption or anything, but to take a look at why she feel for Tachibana and why she feels crushed when she was rejected. Not to give justification for her actions but to get where she is coming from. I don't know where I read it (maybe in comico?) that Tendou is like an abandoned/abused dog. An abandoned/abused dog can't be touched easily and could snap and bite when triggered. I feel like it's a very good metaphor because this child hasn't received love growing up. When she finally got friends, she realized that people wouldn't be kind to her without expecting anything in return. She realized that no one would be kind to her for the sake of it. It's always because they want something in return or they pity her.
