Ultimately it's always up to each child how they feel about their parents' actions and choices (and I cannot speak for anyone's economic situation) but I think I fundamentally disagree that "spending time with your children" is something that should be sacrificed. The relationship I have with my own parents is complicated in no small part because of this kind of distance, and my father didn't have a job that took him away from home for days or weeks on end.Thanks for picking this back up! I've been missing this one.
Though oof I felt this chapter. My dad was a long haul trucker till I was about 12. He'd leave on a run Monday at dawn and frequently wouldn't get back till almost midnight on Fridays. You'd have only a precious few hours over the weekend till he was gone again. It seemed horribly unfair at the time but you do gain an understanding of how much every one sacrifices when you get older. /End blogpost
