On one hand, I don't like other characters deciding for others what they should do (which is why I can't stand Your Lie in April), but on the other, both of them know this is something he wants to do, but lack the guts for. It's a tricky situation, but I don't think he's going to get further without a push.
His demeanor also tells me he was actually planning to go through with it rather than run away, since if he didn't plan it, he wouldn't gone that far in the first place. He's not good at saying no, but has enough of a drive for avoidance to just skip it regardless of what she said.

Which is kind of weird, since she's usually drawn as fairly slender. And about as tall as that man.
Just her realizing that going for 120% all the time maybe isn't the best for everyone.
It would be good for her, but probably devastating for him. But I do think he's got this.
