cgi has been in use in manga for a while, though usually it's used for backgrounds and the artist traces and draws over it rather than just putting it in as is, so you end up not noticing it.
e.g.: have you ever noticed how strangely detailed and specific do cars in manga sometimes seem to be relative to their surroundings? that's either images or cgi models being traced over.
