@slypy Yea you can see it a mile away. Hope not though, we need more stories where non-conventionally attractive people aren't just relegated to being villains.
That's one of the things that makes Ore Monogatari so damn good, because the creators got you to get attached to Takeo for his charmingly dorky character instead of just slapping the 'hot anime character' template on him and saying good enough.

@DrHizzle On a related note, some mangas have characters that are considered unattractive/scary, but the art style does a poor job at conveying these qualities.

You should check out Bouquet for an Ugly Girl. Although the title doesn't quite show it, imo, the author actually put effort into making the main character look some what plain compared to other female characters.

@BCS Being tall can have some unintended negative effects though.
I'm 6'5, but all that serves to do is make me stand out in a crowd so that people can easily see my face and be like "oh god what is that?".
