Mel insinuating that defenders and aggressors are the same, is about as dumb of a defense as saying bandits and the defending towns folk are the same. And implying that Erin's anger over the killing of her husband (which would be a whole revenge story in another manga) is "a spoiled child throwing a tantrum"... It rubs me the wrong way.
Would be way better if they just said: "We make difficult choices with people we hate, for the benefit of the citizens of our kingdom." I'd respect it...
I'm honestly surprised they addressed how short sighted a decision it was for Tadashi to marry an, until mere moments ago, enemy princess. Then again they just did it to sweep it under the rug entirely so not really winning any brownie points. Why bother introducing interesting plot details when you just gloss over them because it's not the main story.

Mal said demons also attacked them, Mal's husband was a warrior and he died at war, would Erin say the same if she was speaking to someone who lost her husband? That's what Mal wanted to say
