That.. was just as rough as the anime was..

I stayed away from this because I'm not emotionally strong enough to get through the whole story again, and this story still makes me tear up when I mention the name or try to explain it.. but god they adapted at least the ending to hit just as fucking hard..

Man, I still don't think I like this. Oh well.

Karma (the movie) is actually based on an old song Maeda did like 15 years ago with the same name, sung by Lia

Her illness, Logos Syndrome, is described in the story as an incurable disease (in chapter 9). The only way to cure her is through that chip. That's why the fact that they brought her to a sanatorium to maintain her life instead of just euthanizing her right away already shows their compassion.

However, regarding of Yota's actions, on Anime Feminist, the user Noise is completely against this plot because it supports the view of "pitying the disabled" (while the Japanese at that time is promoting "respecting the disabled" through anime like 'Koe no Katachi', 'Josee, the Tiger and the Fish', 'The Duke of Death and His Maid', etc. since the pitying view is the culprit leads to Tsukui Yamayuri En Massacre in 2016) and portrays the sanatorium where Hina is brought to (where she can have much better medical accessibility compare to Narukami family) as the final villain.
