Seems kinda rude from the gods to go to a childless couple and go "we skipped a generation" :haa:
Additionally they just had to go through the Momotaro route; not so nice of a reference for the legendary adventurers: that not only did they fail to pass on their legacy to their first generation kids (that were skipped), they apparently also failed to keep them safe (thus the task for the _grand_child). Moreover, not sure how helpful such a letter would be to serve as a proof of identity..? 😬

The letter is for Ryouma only.

The proof is in his status, which the novel shows but I don't remember if the manga showed his whole status.
They are of such renown and somewhat reclusive that if you have a title of apprentice for both of them, then most can only guess as you being raised by them.

Yay! This is one of my current favorites, it's just so darn comfy but without people acting braindead 24/7 ._.

Look, some manga, man... I have 0-braincell PTSD from the characters some authors write...
it really helps that this is a remake so more time could be focused on world building

Does his grandparents look like dwarves or gnomes or something? How will they explain the difference for a human mc?
Adoption, probably.

Coffee, but it's actually tea... Why call it coffee? I'm actually confused.
Tea is any non-alcoholic plant brew. At some point, tea from Camellia sinensis became the default kind of tea.
Coffee is brew from coffee beans, or any other tea meant to substitute for it. For example, chicory roots work as well as dandelion roots.

If we're being technical coffee is kinda already a type of tea but dandelion coffee is a real thing made by roasting I believe the roots of the plant it supposedly makes a fairly accurate coffee substitute some people say they can't tell the difference some people say they can I don't care for coffee so I couldn't comment one way or the other but yeah it's a real thing

during the war, toasted and grounded dandelion roots were used as a coffee surrogate. Not that it tastes anything like coffee, just some vague burnt notes...
