The same thing gave me pause when I read it the first time but I think it ends up working out since they opted for the more "roman" version on everything else they could in the chapter. Like Aeneid + Virgil is great and Aeneis + Vergilius is also fine but mixing them up ( ex: Aeneid + Vergilius ) would have been awkward.

I'm 99% sure that Aeneas is the hero, while Aeneid is the name of the story.

yes, aeneas is the hero. the distinction here is between aeneis and aeneid being interchangeable for the name of the epic. my question from earlier is why the author/translator went with the more technically correct latin translations (aeneis, vergilus) rather than the more commonly known alternative.
