Author this is not a good way to have drama in your story. The 'overhear and misinterpet' trope is unanimously hated. This best not drag on more than a chapter or two. Drama is important to romances because it can get stale without them, but doing it in such cheap ways ruins the story as a whole honestly.

For once the wording actually completely makes sense. She has that terrible habit of being unintentionally lewd and he wants to tell her his feelings without "using" their temporary relationship to satisfy his love. Just really bad timing.
Usually misunderstandings have really dumb wording but this does fit, quite frustrating though 😅
