The guilt was eating her alive, and even worse, Kaoruko's kindness was killing her inside, inadvertently twisting the knife. But the fact that she's able to realize and actually recognize what she did was wrong (even apologize for it) is what makes her ironically a good person - actually horrible, truly bad people will never acknowledge this kind of thing and usually just foist the blame on somebody else.

Both the title of this chapter and Subaru as a character are quite subversive. After the cliffhanger of the last chapter and reading the title of this one, it wouldn't be surprising for this manga to be like so many others and follow the route of the "Friend, who may or may not harbor romantic feelings for the main girl, giving into her selfish hatred for the male lead and lying to her bff so she can disrupt their relationship" trope, but the difference is that Subaru and the rest of the cast are genuinely good people and that this is a well written story.

I can relate to that feeling man, the guilt that slowly eat you from inside, thats why is better to always say the true even if that will make you lose a friend, is way better than lose yourself to the pain of the guilt.

I can understand the annoyance over Subaru's character though I don't agree but are you sure Mary sue is the correct term in this case?
