I grew up on milk straight from the cow, and am still alive (last I checked). Small-time farmers, y'know.
Our neighbours got their milk from us and lived to ripe old age the lot of them.

Sure, the milk we sold to dairy got pasteurized, homogenized, and boxed for sale, but why buy from the store when you've got a half-dozen cows in the shed?

a) pasteurization is a safety thing because not all farmers take good care of their cows
b) raw milk goes bad fast, that's one of the reasons it gets pasteurized
c) nishikata obviously doesn't live on a farm, and does not have cows to get milk from, therefore he's getting it from a store which means it's had that much longer to go bad

does it mean he's a bad parent? no
is it taking an unnecessary risk? yes

I'm pretty sure that this "raw milk" is pasteurized, but not protected in any other way (Like UHT or conservants).
