This is really adorable when you think that the belly button is the leftover from connection between child and mother.

And here I was hoping they'd dive into a flash back of right when chi was born and takagi was craddling chi in her arms with good old dad fainted in the corner of the room

They really need to give Takagi a weakness.
Right now she's just too adept at everything which is ok for a fluff manga but it does make her a bit of a mary-sue.

@Cyreader It was given in the previous series, Takagi’s weakness-
1) her armpits are ticklish
2) she cannot refrain from teasing Nishikata

Not really a weakness, she needs something like being legit afraid of bugs or unable to do or cope with something relatable that Nishikata can or has to do.
Takagi is too strong a character and she really does come off like a Mary-sue to the point where if it wasn't for the author wanting her to love Nishikata she has no real reason to be with him or more importantly he has no real reason to be with her. Neither has an obvious S or M personality however the pranks and moments really can be quite degrading towards Nishikata without any real reciprocation.

Well, I watched the anime first and read manga later, but seeing the anime, I could realise why Takagi-san fell in love with Nishikata... He’s adorable, too simple-minded, even if he wants to get back at her, he’s such a nice guy that always refrain from actions resulting in getting her or her feelings hurt
Plus he gets embarrassed soo easily! And he doesn’t really holds it against her or hate her for that! But goes along with it and accepts his defeat (doesn’t turn to do things too cowardly)... Maybe that’s the reason he never really got her, cuz he never really intended her harm or ever gave up his morals to defeat her! Also, he’s too nice to properly tease; that is- if he succeeded, he’d probably feel bad for the other party, like whenever he manages to get Chi, she gets sad(like when he pretended to fall after she pranked him, or when she couldn’t skip rope 20 times), and then he gives in, ultimately resulting in his loss. To tell you the truth, his actions are pretty easy to read(being the simple minded guy he is), and through observational skills and clever mind of Takagi-san, this just had to come to be... I think the story is well thought, it is intentional, that we aren’t shown her weakness, but she should have it, in the parts we don’t know, that goes unmentioned.
