This is quite an accurate depiction of the folly of trying to have honest negotiations with a criminal gang. It's an oxymoron. Violence is all a karate master has going for him, so he should stick to it. Coincidentally violence is also a language a criminal gang would understand perfectly.

It might be stupid, but it's not like there haven't been numerous groups in modern times and throughout history who think and act like this. "When you are strong I appeal to mercy, for that is according to your principles. When I am strong I show you none, for that is according to my priciples." They're just evil.
