This chapter seemed like bullshit to me, weeks of uninterrupted sleep would have you rushed to the hospital, not left at home in your own bed without intravenous therapy keeping you alive.
I'm no expert on sleep syndromes, but from a quick google search I would assume that the author is basing it on Kleine-Levin syndrome, which can cause patients to have week-long episodes of excessive sleepiness, rather than actually sleeping uninterrupted for weeks.
I still enjoy the story though.
