I wanted something like this, or rather a recommendation similar to White Album 2.
This has everything I wanted:-
choices with weight,
people with loose screws,
storytelling style,
lies,
satisfying finale,
the buildup to it.
I also wanted romance, but well can't have everything. Its unfair to say much about this, but I assure you, if you're looking for the above you will definitely find it!
What a piece of shit of a rushed badly written contradictory manga, "award winning" bruh.
I fucking read this all 126chapters.
This is the one of the most disappointing manga I've read in my life.
It started a solid 9/10 and ended up as a piece of shit 4/10.
Characters become sherlock Holmes whenever the author wants and same characters become brain dead when the author desires , characters find out about shit like they are reading the manga with us. And the fucking police force does not apparently exist in this fucking manga.
The rules for the lipstick changes whenever the fucking author desires.
The characters are all so badly written and all are one dimensional and naive as fuck its insane.
Legit only redeeming quality about this is the art.
Disregard the previous comment, for some reason this manga commonly gets a decent share of unfair criticism. this is actually a great seinen series, pretty underrated imo
You go from feeling pity for Kasane, to loathing her, to fully accepting her character
Loved this series but I'll admit sometimes its like "Bitch ,could you stop being so melodramatic please" , Boy's abyss seems similar and I'd recommend it too (Though personally I can empathyse more with Kasane as much of a bitch that she is kek)
Binged this after getting the Humble Bundle from Kodansha which included the full series. Gotta say, I went into it blind and was pleasantly surprised. It wasn’t perfect, especially since the ending twist is sort of thrown out of left field, but I could definitely understand why it had to happen.
Solid 8/10, great for anyone who wants to momentarily fill the void of Act-Age.
@bigdaddy12 thats normal, many people buy coins to read a webtoon in english Korean platform like Lezhin, Toptoon, Comico ... at 100+ chapters in one title a person can spend up coin worth to 90+ dollars
The Ending was very unexpected , I mean , You won't think A Charecter who didn't appeared for 40+ Chapters unexpectedly returns in last two chapters and kills Kasane, but didn't understand what happened between Tsugumi and Kasane in 125? Did Tsugumi used the lipstick and permanently exchanged Kasane with her?
I tried rereading the last volume of this, still felt that chill of revealing oneself
@Robinisback Yep, serving from a year old memory alone, she never knew what happened with Neena and Kasane did plan to tell her everything about Neena through Nogiku. The cat's out of the bag, she's mad, switched body with Kasane, and killed herself in Kasane's body.
cmiiw though
@Robinisback considering the pace of things around the end, i think it's pretty reasonable?
i forgot where exactly but i think after Kingo came out clean about her mother and stuff? Idk i didn't reread the entire thing i could forget a thing or two
But the clue was there and she had a change of heart, iirc
I see there's a lot of divide when it comes to this manga. While I feel it is fair to critique some contrivances in the story there are far less of them than most people think. Many people come in expecting a lot of "realism" but this is a (supernatural) drama and tragedy first and foremost. The story structure is clearly influenced by classic tragedies with some additions of modern tragedies to boot:
0. The audience is told beforehand that this is a tragedy (classic Greek)
1. The protagonist starts at the rock bottom (modern, classic would be position of prominence)
2. The protagonist has a fatal flaw that never changes (aka Hamartia, classic Greek)
3. Fatal flaw causes the tragedy to unfold changing the way characters life progresses (aka Peripeteia, classic Greek)
4. Things only go downhill (classic Greek)
5. Audience get to experience Catharsis / Denouncement (usually only one, but here we have both. Classic Greek)
6. Shakespearean collateral effect (all the prominent side characters are affected by the actions of the main cast in a tragic way)
Ultimately I felt like no panels, characters or lines of dialog were wasted and it was very well executed tragedy, following the beats of the classics which it clearly drew inspiration from (
for Gods sake we have two Shakespeare's tragedies played out in this manga...
).
If you enjoy beautiful art and want to experience something melancholy from beginning till the end then I definitely recommend giving this a go.
