I watched the anime of this series who knows how many years ago, to the point that I forgot many of the details before I read it, and I was wonderfully surprised! Such a beautiful yet heart wrenching love story of a person being true to themselves.
I found each character of the love triangle very interesting. Hazumu has the complex situation of unwillingly having a sex change, but she is more than that. She has hobbies, interests, and struggles that feel very relatable to me, as I am also very indecisive in almost any situation. Even then, she is headstrong and faces most conflicts head on, unwavering until the very end. I also appreciate that her body changing didn't actually change her character, unlike most gender benders (especially ones that change their sexual and/or romantic preference). Yasuna is a fun parallel to Hazumu, as she also has to overcome complex issues of her heart and the inability to face conflict in the beginning. Watching her grow is pleasant, and her overcoming herself to bloom is beautiful. I still appreciate a tsundere like Tomari, especially when they are more intricate. She is strong, but she struggles internally far more than most. Nonetheless, her love for Hazumu pushes her to become even better than before.
The story is pretty simple with the premise being the focus. Hazumu has to adjust to her new situation, bringing in to question assumptions (Including the classic, "Can I even like girls now?") and finding herself with her mostly same surroundings. Love triangles can be fun or frustrating, and luckily this is the former moreso than the latter. The love doesn't ruin the events of the story, but it always has a lingering bitterness as the story moves forward.
10/10 I HIGHLY recommend everyone read this story, as both a lover of gender benders and yuri. The characters are interesting enough, and the premise, story, and conflicts can really pull readers in. The conclusion wasn't what I hoped for, but it was a great one nonetheless.
