I mean, dress how you want but tech there would be some 'fashion rules' (tho other than not being super flashy/clashing i don't think there'd be anything too bad versus just showing up sloppily dressed on a date), otherwise fashion magazines wouldn't be a thing, i wouldn't be surprised if there were some Japanese fashion 'rules' uncommon in the west (Hell, there's a whole manga series focused on that theme too https://mangadex.org/title/c9aaa96b...7720/if-you-re-gonna-dress-up-do-it-like-this)
